La Jolla High School is about to host its first film festival, thanks to senior and aspiring filmmaker Julian Clark. The event will be held Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium and is open to the public.
Filmmaker Pierce Kavanaugh, who grew up in La Jolla, said he received his first camera when he was 13 years old, a gift to his father that was re-purposed as his own.

The Second Annual San Diego Christian Film Festival runs 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Dec. 30 at La Jolla Marriott Hotel, 4240 La Jolla Village Drive. A special screening of the invited film “Hardflip,” is set for 5:30 p.m. Dec. 29. The film tells the story of a young skateboarder who struggles through a number of difficult life situations to find faith and re-unite with his father. “Hardflip” was filmed in and around San Diego and stars a number of professional skateboarders including Christian Hosoi, Bryan Sumner and Tim Byrne to name a few. The film also features in the lead roles, Rosanna Arquette, Randy Wayne, and John Schneider.
