Prudential California Realty recently launched a six-month training and support program designed to help agents understand and use new media channels such as Facebook and Twitter to benefit their buyers and sellers.
"Whether consumers are choosing an agent or searching for a property, new media is quickly becoming a critical research tool," Prudential California Realty President and Chief Executive Officer Jon Cook said.
The company created the program in collaboration with Jim Marks and Tom Ferry, founders of Youreach Media, a leading social media training resource for real estate professionals.
Soup drive is 'Super'
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage's La Jolla office recently sponsored a very successful Super Bowl Soup Drive to help replenish the San Diego Food Bank.
For every can of soup donated, there was a chance to win a 6-foot sub sandwich to serve at the winner's own Super Bowl party. Rande Wegman of University City and Kathleen Fredman of La Jolla won the drawings.
Jeff Nunn, manager of Coldwell Banker La Jolla, said he was very proud of his agents' success with the drive.
"I love that they are helping the San Diego community," he said. "They are all truly caring people who take the community's needs to heart."
CONNECT goes to D.C.
CONNECT, a regional program serving inventors and entrepreneurs, said recently that it is opening an office in Washington, D.C., to ensure that there is a strong link between the San Diego innovation community and the federal government.
CONNECT policy staffer Jessie Womble will be located there for the next six months to set up the office at the University of California Washington Center and establish a consistent CONNECT presence on Capitol Hill. Once someone is hired, Womble will return to San Diego to coordinate the Policy Committee.
Jitterbug to focus on hearts
Cell phone-maker Jitterbug is supporting the 2010 American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Campaign to help raise awareness for heart disease.
The company has announced the new Jitterbug J in Red along with a joint donation with Samsung for $500,000.
The new phone will include Heart Healthy Tips sent to the phones via text message, one message a day for a full year.
Rastetter named to board
William H. Rastetter, Ph.D., was recently appointed to the Neurocrine Biosciences Inc. board of directors, effective immediately.
He is chairman and chief executive officer of Receptos Inc., and retired as executive chairman of Biogen Idec Inc. at the end of 2005. He had served in that position since the November 2003 merger of Biogen Inc. and IDEC Pharmaceuticals Corp.
Scottrade relocates office
Scottrade, a leading branch-supported online investing firm, is relocating its La Jolla office to 8855 Villa La Jolla Drive.
The office will open March 8.
Scottrade offers free local branch seminars and user summits to give customers an opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics, including basic order types and the features and functionality of Scottrade's trading platforms. Free fuel cell workshops set
Fuel cell workshops for business and residential use will be held on March 8 at the California Center for Sustainable Energy, 8690 Balboa Ave., Suite 100, in Kearny Mesa.
The workshops will explain fuel cell technology, discuss its applications and advantages, cover available rebates, and provide case studies of home and business installations.
The session for businesses is from 1 to 4:30 p.m.; the residential use session is from 6 to 8 p.m.
