Author seeks career success stories
Jul 9, 2008
By Maria Connor - La Jolla Light

Marcy Morrison
La Jolla career strategist Marcy Morrison is inviting individuals of all ages and backgrounds to share their success stories for her soon-to-be-published book, "Finding Your Dream: The Easy Step-by-Step guide to Career Success."

"I know there's a lot of great stories in La Jolla," Morrison said. "I just want to provide the inspiration to people."

Morrison's book is slated for a 2009 release with Morgan James Publishing. "Finding Your Dream" will be a guide for individuals seeking to break out of a rut or find a more fulfilling career. By adding personalized stories, Morrison hopes to demonstrate that there is no single path to success.

"It may not seem logical, but you have to trust in what your want to do," she said.
To that end, Morrison is issuing an open invitation for men and women to share stories about radical career changes, careers that happened by accident, or careers established despite great odds.

"I'm looking for people who had the courage to walk away and follow their passions," she said.

Morrison, married with two sons ages 4 and 7, started her company in April 2007 after she began doing pro bono consultation work and speaking to college students about finding their ideal careers.

"I actually went through the process I lead people through," she said. "It was just one of those things that sort of evolved. I help people figure out what they love to do and then we put together a plan to make it happen."

The process begins with self-assessment, getting clear on priorities and passions. The second step involves believing in one's self and one's abilities, followed by strategizing for how to make the dream a reality. The final step is developing and implementing an action plan.

"What I found was that people were making it too complicated," Morrison said. "It's about asking, 'What do I love to do and what am I good at?' "

Morrison said she wants her book to provide the necessary information in a format that will not intimidate people.

"I really feel like I'm here to support people in transition," she said. "My goal is to help people connect with their heart to live their passions."
