Speaker to discuss life after suicide attempt Oct. 17

Kevin Hines

The International Bipolar Foundation will host a free mental health lecture and book signing Oct. 17 with author Kevin Hines of “Cracked Not Broken: Surviving and thriving after a suicide attempt.” The presentation will take place at the Bipolar Foundation, 3210 Merryfield Row. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.; lecture begins at 6 p.m. RSVP is required: AJacobs@InternationalBipolarFoundation.org

Hines’ journey began in a hotel room where 4-month-old Hines and his twin brother laid, malnourished and abandoned. What followed is a chronicle of the events that brought Hines, at age 19, to the moment where he jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge, falling 220 feet before colliding with the San Francisco Bay water. While he meant for his actions to culminate in his death, it evolved into a discovery and re-birth with purpose in life.
