Travelers Meet

Carolyn Shadle and John Meyer will offer a multi-media presentation about their recent trip to Oaxaca, Mexico with Road Scholar (Elderhostel), as guests of the La Jolla Photo Travelers Club, 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at Wesley Palms, 2404 Loring St. east of Soledad Mountain Road in Pacific Beach. They will share color, music and stories about the folk art of the region and the rich Oaxacan December holiday celebrations, culminating with the Radish Festival. Animation Festival

Spike & Mike’s Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation continues its 20th anniversary screenings of new-and-classic animated short films on weekends through Nov. 23. Celebrity guest Billy West appears Sept. 13-14 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. for Q&As, photos and autographs. West is a voice talent for “Futurama,” “The Ren & Stimpy Show,” “Looney Tunes,” and commercials, such as the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee and the Red M&M. San Diego Restaurant Week
The second annual #SDRWTaste2013 from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, will kick off San Diego Restaurant Week (Sept. 15-20) at the Port Pavilion at the Broadway Pier. At this tasting event, more than 40 of Restaurant Week’s best restaurants will serve up samples of house specialties. Each food sample will be paired with a unique beverage to enhance the flavors of each dish. Tickets are $60 at SanDiegoRestaurantWeek.com

Part of the proceeds will be given to the San Diego Food Bank and Mama’s Kitchen.

During San Diego Restaurant Week, choose from more than 180 of San Diego’s most delightful and delicious eateries for three-course prix-fixe dinner menus for $20, $30 or $40 per person, and lunch pairings at prix-fixe menus for $10, $15 or $20 per person depending on the restaurant.
