Community Center to offer home inventory class

Need a little guidance on putting together an inventory of your belongings? Expert Anne Schofield will teach a two-hour, how-to class at the La Jolla Community Center, 6811 La Jolla Blvd. The workshops begin at 10 a.m. July 18 and will be repeated the third Thursday of each month.

Participants are asked to bring a notebook, pen or pencil and digital camera, and register by calling (858) 459-0831. The cost is $15 for members, $20 for non-members.

After 10 years in Records Management and 13 years volunteering with the police department, Schofield said she knows the importance of keeping a record of everything in your home — including items in the attic, basement, garage or storage unit — in case of a natural disaster, moving or a theft.

The class, Asset Images Home Inventory, will explain why proper documentation is crucial, how to create a visual and written record with or without a computer, uses for the inventory, and how to keep it up-to-date.

Schofield will provide handouts, including which documents to keep and for how long, plus a list of local authorities’ contact information.
