Arrest made in 2012 La Jolla home invasion
San Diego Police Robbery Unit detectives, in cooperation with investigators and SWAT personnel from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, arrested David Allen Grub, 43, for last summer’s home invasion robbery on Hillside Drive, as well an earlier residential burglary in Pacific Beach.
On August 1, 2012, at about 6:15 p.m., a female real estate agent was accosted inside a home she had just finished showing to a prospective buyer. The suspect entered the unlocked front door and pointed a long gun at the agent, asking if the home had a safe and demanding jewelry. He then forced the agent to open drawers in the master bedroom where he stole jewelry and fur coats. He took the agent’s cell phone and ordered her to remain in the room.
As the suspect exited the house, he encountered the homeowner in the driveway. The homeowner saw the suspect carrying his wife’s furs and yelled at him. The suspect dropped the furs, pointed his gun at the victim and fired two shots into the ground at the victim’s feet. The victim was hit by concrete shrapnel from the roadway and sustained minor facial injuries. The suspect got into a small, black two-door vehicle and drove westbound.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department had a similar case on December 20, 2012 in Ranch Santa Fe. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department obtained information connecting Grub to the robbery and served an arrest warrant on him Feb. 28. San Diego Police Robbery Unit detectives served a related search warrant on the residence and at a second location in Lakeside.
Grub was arrested at a residence in Alpine without incident and was charged with multiple counts related to the incidents. Grub was arraigned March 1 at 1:30 p.m. in San Diego Superior Court.
