Venter Institute expects to wrap up its Torrey Pines Road blocks by Friday, Jan. 11

By Susan DeMaggio

Utility trenches along Torrey Pines Road have blocked some traffic lanes for the past two weeks.

Utility work at the Venter Institute (Torrey Pines Road and La Jolla Village Drive) currently under construction, has been underway for the past two weeks but should be wrapped up by Friday, Jan. 11, according to Robert M. Friedman, COO, J. Craig Venter Institute.

Traffic has been limited to one southbound lane on Torrey Pines Road from the intersection of North Torrey Pines and Torrey Pines to the Allen Field property line (well north of its driveway).

Both the right-turn and left-turn turning lanes on North Torrey have had traffic cones to direct the traffic to the single lane south on Torrey Pines Road.

Utility work was limited to the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to the loss of one lane of traffic, there was no parking or bike lane during this time. Workers set up and took down traffic cones each day. The trench they were working on was plated so that there was no disruption outside of those hours, according to a memo from the La Jolla Shores Association.
