A home on Camino de la Costa once owned by mystery novelist and screenwriter Raymond Chandler has sold for $6 million, according to public records and Bird Rock real estate agent Dennis DeSouza, who represented both the buyer and seller in the deal.

Chandler lived in the property, near Avenida Cresta, until his death in 1959. The Chicago native was best known for creating the detective character Philip Marlowe. He also co-wrote the film “Double Indemnity” and worked on the screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train.”

According to a story published by U-T San Diego, property records show the buyers are Perry and Deborah Falk, who own Perry Auto Group car dealerships throughout Southern California. The sellers were senior Qualcomm executive Jim Wang and his wife, Vera.

The humble cottage Chandler once occupied was expanded and remodeled extensively in 2007. It sold for $5.3 million in July 2008. It now has six bedrooms and 6.5 baths, and is assessed at $4.7 million, public records show.

DeSouza said the contemporary ocean-view home wasn’t on the market a full day when it sold.

DeSouza also sold a home owned by Phil Mickelson on Neptune Place last year.
