They took away the library and that was SO sad! Yes, we got the new one but the old one is still there, never having anything nice. The post office is next. La Jolla is selling out again! If the post office goes you may as well just flush it all down the toilet!!nWhat is wrong with you people! You are taking away the charm and character of La Jolla! All you want is money, money, money! Keep La Jolla the way it is before it is too late! Shame on you! If you keep this up it will soon be gone. What will go in there? Another restaurant, gallery or t-shirt shop? Maybe another bank? Fight to keep La Jolla a small, charming community!! Be more like Carmel, CA ! SAVE LA JOLLA!!!!!!!!!

The USPS is trying to be an economically responsible government agency and people are talking like they want to start the apocalypse. They should be commended not burned at the stake! If you want to buy the building and rent it back or do whatever you want with it makes no difference to me it's your money. But the quotes above are in a lot of ways ridiculous!

Athina Singer, according to the Light all the PO Box numbers will remain the same but in a new location with in the Village.

Carolyn De Moss, You'll just point them to the new location.

James,

The Red Roost and Red Rest were designated historic by the efforts of its owner, prior to their private sale to the current owners - a La Jolla Family Trust which owns several properties including the adjacent La Jolla Suites - that family business now controls the destiny of those two last cove cottage structures.

The La Jolla Post Office land was purchased and the building built by the US Government and the USPS is now a "Quasi Governmental" Institution. This make this "project" fundamentally different in that We The People paid for the USPS and we the citizens have a right to engage in meaningful conversation about it's future - which could be a community buy-back and lease- back agreement. We are requesting some time, after 77 years, to work together with our USPS to come up with a Win-Win solution.

You do all realize postal service will continue right? The Post Office will just move to a new location. I think the Light said with in a mile and the PO Box numbers will all stay the same just a new location.

What's to prevent this project of "saving the post office" from turning into another Red Rest and Red Roost Inn type situation?

I'm no longer a La Jolla resident but it looks like two separate issues are getting confused. Parking at the present location has always been a problem. So move the PO but for heaven's sake, keep the fine old building
