Romney’s in the Hood!

Photos by Phil Dailey

And so it begins … now that it appears former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will be the Republican candidate for U.S. President, his oceanfront home in La Jolla gets Secret Service scrutiny. Step one is to ensure only locals access the neighborhood. These restrictive traffic signs were placed at the entrance to Dunemere Drive off Monte Vista Avenue and monitored by security when Romney arrived for the Easter weekend on April 6.

Signs say residents only at the entrance to the Romney vacation home in La Jolla.

  1. Instead of paying a Lobbyist in San Diego to have his home renovated, wouldn't it be nice if La Jolla were independent of San Diego? Then It could retain its integrity…or has it lost already?! Read my book and learn that there is a history to the town with a funny name: LA JOLLA, A CELEBRATION of ITS PAST.

"Read my book"? are you just trying to sell more copies? From the title of your book I have to assume you've omitted a lot of the history of La Jolla! How does Romney paying for La Jolla's independents help him renovate his house? are you implying that it would be cheaper to go that route? or quicker?

  2. This house once belonged to my in-laws when their son, now my husband, was dating me. The neighborhood resounds with history. We hope the integrity will be preserved and believe, in order to do this, La Jolla n
eeds to be independent of San Diego. A town unto itself like Del Mar and Coronado.

Well go talk to Independent La Jolla and donate the $2,000,000 they need to file the paperwork that they say is already completed.

Wouldn't it be nice if you realized that the land originally belonged to the Kumeyaay Tribe, and not people who want it to be independent from San Diego? The area could retain its integrity and remember its history and its original name mat kulaaxuuy. Read a little more and learn about a place with an even funnier name.

If he becomes president way more than Dunemere will get closed. There's the potential for beach access to be completely restricted. To Patricia, you really want Mitt to be able to tear down a historic Barber tract home so he can build some kind of monstrosity?
