The Children’s School showcases student’s interpretations of great artists at open house Feb. 16

The Children’s School (TCS) in La Jolla is buzzing with excitement in preparation for the Great Artists Grande Finale Thursday, Feb. 16 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Now in its 13th year at TCS, Great Artists encourages children ages toddler through eighth grade to develop an appreciation of art as they work through an integrated curriculum consisting of developmentally appropriate activities in language arts, math, science and social studies. Students explore the life, work and artistic style of their classroom’s chosen artist.

This year classroom Great Artists range from Alfred Hitchcock and Jimmy Mirikitani to Wassily Kandinsky and Georgia O’Keefe.

For the grande finale event on Feb. 16th, TCS opens its gates and invites the public in to celebrate its 2012 Great Artists and the students’ creative interpretations of their works.

Classrooms across campus will be transformed into dynamic art spaces showcasing children’s artistic endeavors showcasing the depth of their learning.

The school’s Great Artists Program also filters into its Dance Academy. Dancers, who have been studying the art of Degas, Matisse, Chagall and Picasso, will be interpreting their works in dance as part of “Art in Motion” performances scheduled for 6, 6:40 and 7:15 p.m. on the 16th.
