Annual Candlelight Ball ushers in the holiday season

The 82nd annual Candlelight Ball, held Dec. 3 at The Grand Del Mar, raised more than $2 million to benefit lifesaving care at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, with generous support from philanthropist and newspaper heiress Betty Knight Scripps. Through Mrs. Scripps’ leadership as General Chairman for the past nine years, Candlelight Ball has raised more than $24 million.

In recognition of her dedication and community support, the San Diego City Council proclaimed Dec. 3 as “Betty Knight Scripps Day.” Mrs. Scripps was presented with the framed declaration during the Candlelight Ball celebration.Guests were in agreement that the occasion was one of the loveliest ever.
