Toys For Tots comes to San Diego beaches

Today, on the twelfth day before Christmas, City lifeguards and Councilmembers Kevin Faulconer and Sherri Lightner announced that San Diegans can make a donation to Toys for Tots at any beach lifeguard station.

Joined at the Pacific Beach Lifeguard Station by Bill Waugaman, San Diego Fire Fighter and Marine Corps Reservist and Jeff Hatfield, San Diego Lifesaving Association, the City Councilmembers who represent San Diego’s beaches called on locals to help a family in need this holiday season.

“We’re asking San Diegans to do what they do best – visit our beaches and bays – and bring with them a new, unwrapped toy for a child,” said City Council President Pro Tem Kevin Faulconer. “The Toys for Tots lifeguard donation drive is a great way to celebrate our beach culture as well as the holidays.”

“Bring your children to the beach and have them bring a gift for child who isn’t so fortunate,” said Councilmember Sherri Lightner. “It will make the visit that much more memorable while honoring the spirit of the season.”

Donated toys will be distributed as Christmas gifts to needy children in the San Diego area. Checks in any amount are also accepted. All donations are tax-deductable.

“A simple donation of a toy can make a lasting memory for a child during the holiday season,” said Lifeguard Sergeant Ed Harris.

The United States Marine Corps Reserves has been collecting Christmas toys for children through the Toys for Tots program since 1947.

Donated toys can be dropped off at the following San Diego lifeguard stations:

Ocean Beach; Mission Beach; Pacific Beach; La Jolla Cove; La Jolla Shores; San Diego Lifeguard Station Headquarters in Mission Bay – 2581 Quivera Court.
