Padres to open 2012 season at home against L.A.

The Padres will open their 2012 season with a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers beginning April 5 at Petco Park, the team announced Wednesday.

The Padres will then host the Arizona Diamondbacks — the National League West division leaders so far this year — for three games before going on the road.

The season will conclude with home series against the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, followed by three games at Milwaukee against the Brewers — the NL Central leaders this season — which would be important if the Padres are contending for the division title by this time next year.

Interleague play will pit the Padres against the American League West, with home series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers.
