Big Green Bus rolls into Birch Aquarium at Scripps on Saturday

The Big Green Bus, a converted Greyhound that travels on biodiesel, vegetable oil and solar power, will stop at Birch Aquarium at Scripps from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 during its nationwide tour to promote sustainability. The classroom on wheels – operated by 13 students from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire – is outfitted with sensors and tools designed to help visitors learn about and experience the inner-workings of the bus (www.thebiggreenbus.org)

Birch Aquarium at Scripps is at 2300 Expedition Way in La Jolla.

The visit is tied to the aquarium’s newest exhibit, Boundless Energy, an outdoor, interactive playground that celebrates the innovative ways we can use natural forces to power our lives. The exhibit is designed to deepen visitors’ understanding of how renewable energy sources from the sun, the wind and ocean motion can be used to produce clean electricity.
