Chargers open training camp
City News Service
The San Diego Chargers will open training camp Wednesday, with players undergoing physicals and participating in meetings at the team’s headquarters.
The Chargers will have preliminary walkthroughs and workouts Thursday and Friday, with the first practice Saturday afternoon, according to Bill Johnston, the team’s director of public relations.
In connection with Monday’s approval of a new collective bargaining agreement, the NFL decided that teams would open their training camps 15 days before their first exhibition game, which for the Chargers will be Aug. 11 against the Seattle Seahawks at Qualcomm Stadium.
The only significant change to the training camp schedule because of the lockout is that the rookie portion probably would have begun last Saturday, Johnston told City News Service.
