La Jolla church hosting Oaxacan wood carving exhibit, workshop
The works of 15 Oaxacan wood carvers will be featured in an exhibit this weekend at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 743 Prospect St., La Jolla.
The event opens Friday with a 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. reception where artist Victor Vasquez will be present along with his own museum-quality work and that of the other artists. Tickets are $25 and include hors d’oeuvres, beer and win. They can be purchased at the St. James Gift Shop or at the door. Advance RSVPs are requested. Call (858) 456-1105. Process will go to the Dorcas House and Responsibility, two Tijuana charities.
On Saturday and Sunday, the show, including a special exhibition by Vasquez, and sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday’s activities include a free workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. where children and adults can paint carved wooden animals.
