City News Service

A man in his 20s sustained fatal injuries early today when he drove a small sedan into several parked cars and a palm tree in University City, police said.

The fatality happened while the man was driving a 2001 Chevy Prizm at a high rate of speed southbound on Regents Road, near Berino Court, around midnight, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The Prizm eventually came to rest on some utility boxes, Delimitros said, noting that the man died at the scene.

His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
