Two celebratory events for cancer survivors set in La Jolla

Scripps Cancer Center will host a free celebration for cancer survivors, their families, and the community at its 20th annual Cancer Survivor’s Day, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, June 12 at the Valerie Timken Amphitheater at Scripps Green Hospital, 10666 North Torrey Pines Road. “A Celebration of Life” will include a breast surgeon’s perspective on survivorship and a discussion about the role of integrative medicine in cancer care, a poetry reading by a survivor, and a musical performance by Afro-Pop artists Akayaa Atule and Bolga Zohdooma. Refreshments will be served. To register, call (858) 554-8533. Parking will be free.

A second event is 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at the Schaetzel Center, Great Hall at Scripps Memorial Hospital, 9888 Genesee Ave. “Celebrate Life: A Cancer Survivorship Luncheon” will include discussions about the role of integrative medicine and exercise in cancer survivorship and the latest advancements in cancer treatment. The event is free and open to anyone living with a history of cancer, regardless of where they received treatment. To register, call 1 (800) 727-4777. Parking tickets will be validated
