Supervisors to advertise for bids for waterfront park

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted Tuesday to advertise for bids to construct a 16.6-acre waterfront park outside the County Administration Center.
Supervisor Ron Roberts said the $44.2 million park, to be completed in late 2013, will be a place for civic celebrations, weddings and where families can play.
“This park will be a legacy, one that hosts and inspires tens of thousands each year and for generations to come,” Roberts said. “It’s going to be a landmark.”
The plan, under development since 1998, calls for the center’s two parking lots to be replaced with park land. Parking will be shifted into an underground structure.
County officials expect to award a contract this fall.
In other action today, the supervisors voted 5-0 to expand a health care program operated in conjunction with the state of California, and funded by the federal government.
Supervisor Greg Cox said the action will double the current resources available to low-income, uninsured adults with high-cost health problems.
Residents ages 19-64, with family incomes up to 133 percent of the federal poverty level are eligible for the program, which has operated on a test basis for about four years.
The county Health and Human Services Agency contracts with five clinic systems to provide services. Expansion of the program will begin July 1.
