La Jolla resident Yankelovich to speak to Democrats

La Jolla resident Daniel Yankelovich will speak at the Rancho Santa Fe Democratic Club general meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 18 at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club.

Named by PR Week as one of the 10 most influential people of the past century in the arena of public affairs, communications and public relations, Yankelovicih has spent half a century monitoring social change and public opinion in America.

In the 1970s and 1980s he initiated the New York Times/Yankelovich Poll, founded (with Cyrus Vance) Public Agenda — a non-partisan not-for-profit public policy research organization- and established DYG Inc., a firm that tracks social and market trends.

After moving to California in the ‘90s, he founded Viewpoint Learning, which specializes in dialogue-based learning.

He is currently on the Board of the UCSD Foundation, is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council in the Social Sciences, and in 2009, he endowed the Yankelovich Chair in Social Thought at UCSD.

Cost to attend is $15 for members and $25 for non-members
