Two noted authors in La Jolla to read for UCSD writers series

Jerome Rothenberg and Heriberto Yepez will be the next guest authors to do some readings at the UCSD New Writing Series beginning at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 in the Visual Arts Facility (VAF) Performance Space. This event is free and open to the public. For directions, visit

Jerome Rothenberg

Rothenberg is an American poet and editor who is noted for his work in ethnopoetics. He was born in New York City in 1931 and attended the City College of New York, graduating in 1952. In 1953, he got a Master’s Degree in Literature from the University of Michigan. Rothenberg served in the U.S. Army in Mainz, Germany from 1953 to 1955, after which he did further graduate study at Columbia University, finishing in 1959. He has continued to be a prolific poet, publishing some 50 books since 1971.

Yepez is a Mexican writer, journalist and psychotherapist, and a full-time professor at the Art School at the Autonomous University of Baja California, in Tijuana. He’s the author of more than a dozen books of poetry, experimental fiction, novels, theory and literary criticism in Spanish. His books have received four national literary awards, among other recognitions.

Heriberto Yepez

His work in translation include a selection of William Blake’s fragments/aphorisms; José Vasconcelos work in English; a poetry anthology and a forthcoming lengthy prose and poetics anthology of Jerome Rothenberg, and currently works editing the first Charles Bernstein’s prose anthology in Spanish.
