San Diego State announces football schedule for upcoming season

San Diego State announced kickoff times and the television schedule  for 11 of its 12 games for the upcoming 2011 football season. With broadcast details of the Michigan contest expected to be released at a later date, the Aztecs will have all of their outings televised for the first time since the 1991 campaign.

SDSU plays six games on The Mountain West Sports Network (The Mtn.) and is involved in five of the league’s 10 contests that will be shown on CBS Sports Network. All 12 matchups will also be shown in high definition.

Rocky Long’s debut as head coach of the Aztecs gets under way at 7 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sept. 3, when the team plays host to Cal Poly on The Mtn. HD.  A week later, San Diego State’s first-ever meeting with Army in West Point, N.Y., is slated to be televised on CBS Sports Network HD at 9 a.m. PT, while the Sept. 17 match-up with Washington State at Qualcomm Stadium kicks off at 3 p.m. on The Mtn HD. After making the trip to Ann Arbor, the Aztecs open Mountain West Conference play on CBS Sports Network HD against TCU at home at 7:30 p.m.

The most dramatic change to SDSU’s previously released schedule is the moving of the Air Force contest from Saturday, Oct. 15, to Thursday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m. PT in Colorado Springs, Colo. The meeting with the Falcons, which will be carried on CBS Sports Network HD, will be SDSU’s first regular-season game to not be played on a Saturday since 2006, when it took on UTEP on Thursday, Aug. 31.  Additionally, the last time the Aztecs played a league game on any day other than Saturday was their final year as a member of the Western Athletic Conference in 1998, when they faced Brigham Young on Oct. 29.

Four of the team’s following five conference contests at home against Wyoming (Oct. 29 – 7 p.m.) and New Mexico (Nov. 5 – 5 p.m.) and on the road at Colorado State (Nov. 12 – 3 p.m. PT) and at UNLV (Nov. 26 – 7 p.m.) will all be televised in high definition on The Mtn.

Two of SDSU’s final three regular-season games vs. Boise State on Nov. 19, and against Fresno State on Dec. 3, will both be shown on CBS Sports Network starting at 5 p.m. PT from Qualcomm Stadium.
