Crash closes I-805

City News Service

One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on a rain- soaked Interstate 805 Monday, prompting a significant freeway closure at the height of the morning commute, authorities said.

The fatality on southbound Interstate 805, just north of Balboa Avenue, happened just before 6 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A SigAlert was issued as all southbound traffic was diverted off the freeway at Balboa Avenue, then later at state Route 52. It was not immediately clear how long the SigAlert would last.

The CHP advised motorists to take southbound Interstate 5 or state Route 163 to avoid the southbound I-805 closure.
