Community Leader’s View: La Jolla Town Council picking up steam

Rick Wildman
President, La Jolla Town Council

The La Jolla Town Council is running on high-octane fuel since our increased residential and business memberships and donations have enabled us to hire Valerie Strocco as our administrator. Having concluded of our most successful Christmas and Holiday event, we are looking for people of all backgrounds to join next year’s committee. Please call Valerie, Ann Kerr Bache or me if you are interested in being a member of the organizing committee. Everyone is welcome. We want to make our next signature event more inclusive than ever.

April is the month for Town Council election of trustees. Three of our dedicated trustees are now termed out of office, so we will be looking for new faces who are willing and able to make a significant contribution to insure that La Jolla is well-represented in all matters that involve Our Town. Greater San Diego now looks to the Town Council as the voice of La Jolla. This reality is something we will build on.

Sunday’s Annual Orphan Car & Handcrafted Vehicle Meet, hosted by prominent La Jollan Howard Singer, brought droves of auto enthusiasts and shoppers to our village. It featured 72 unique and vintage autos from San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange and Imperial Counties.

The sequel, our March 10 “Clean Elections” meeting, will feature the guaranteed-to-blow-your-socks-off La Jolla Historical Society introduction to the April 3 La Jolla Motor Car Classic. Presenters will also include folks from Independent La Jolla, the Surfrider Foundation, and the April 17 “30th Annual La Jolla Half Marathon.”

We continue to build closer relationships with UCSD, Bird Rock, the Shores and the Riford Center. So please join us wherever you live in 92037. Don’t miss the chance to be part of our town’s history-in-the-making as we continue to put all the pieces together. There is no reason why, with wisdom and perseverance, our Town Council should not emerge as our City Council before the decade is out. Now there is a high-octane concept!

  • Kudos to City of Del Mar’s Finance Committee Pension Sub-Committee May 18, 2013
Hats off to the members of the City of Del Mar’s Finance Committee Pension Sub-Committee for the 18-plus months they spent learning the ins and outs of the City’s $23,000,000-plus pension obligation. They really have a well-researched understanding of the issues and the politics and the challenges of the City’s pension liability, and as we approach the next […]
  • Time to forget or time to remember? May 18, 2013
Jordan Rosenfeld, in his letter of May 9, said it’s time to stop the comparisons with Hitler and Nazi Germany, such as made by Jim Donovan (me) and Tom Pickwell in making their (separately submitted) cases against Big Brother in America and his ever bigger and bolder encroachments upon the liberty fought for by our inspired founders and guaranteed by the Con […]
  • One Paseo – I really don’t care May 18, 2013
I really don’t care if Kilroy builds the One Paseo mixed use project. I am retired. I can wander over to Carmel Valley after the noon time rush and before the Torrey Pines High school gets out around 2:45 p.m. […]
