The wraps came off the La Jolla community mural on the side of the building at 7596 Eads Ave. on Thursday.

It’s the work of renowned Seattle artist Roy McMakin, who was in town Dec. 18, asking the question: What is your favorite color? About 1,000 people turned out for the event, picking their answer from a pallet of 58 colors. McMakin’s crew began painting the 900 concrete blocks during the community event.

After the rain stopped, the tarp came off to unveil the colorful mural, the second of the La Jolla Community Foundation’s planned series of 10 or so temporary murals around town. They will be created on private buildings and are expected to remain up for 12 to 24 months. The next one will be done by UCSD professor Anya Gallecio on the wall on Fay Avenue next to Rubio’s that now reads “Dentist.”
