Members of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club led by George Mannschreck took a group of 30 Wounded Warriors (some with children) on a deep-sea adventure aboard the Seaforth, recently.

Mannschreck and his crew of Rotarians have been using this outreach project to serve the military community since 1995.  Most of these soldiers, representing the various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, are in recovery at Veterans Hospital and other facilities around San Diego County.

“Spending the day fishing is an opportunity to give back to the unsung heroes whose tremendous personal sacrifice is often the result of a mission accomplished,” said Rotarian Jim Williams.

As a physical therapist, member Marla Knox commented, “It’s important for the veterans to get out of the hospital for a few hours.  The mental aspect of healing is enhanced by such trips, because the wounded soldiers are able to get their minds off their physical problems.”

Members of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club serve the military community at the VA Hospital by hosting dinners and gathering toiletries for them, as well as by supporting numerous projects at Camp Pendleton.

The annual Wounded Warrior Fishing Trip is just one of many community service projects that exemplify the service organization as the “Most Dynamic Rotary Club in the World!”

The club, with 120 members, meets at 7 a.m. Fridays at the Marriott Hotel
, 4240 La Jolla Village Drive. To find out how you can get involved, contact president Dory Beatrice-Griffith at (858) 449-0558 or visit lajollagtrotary.org
