Harry Potter ‘premiere’ raises $14,000 for kids fighting cancer

The Seany Foundation hosted early screenings of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I” on Nov. 18, several hours before it would hit screens nationwide at midnight. More than 300 guests from the “muggle” community walked down the red carpet at Ultra Star Del Mar Highlands for a great cause — “Hairless Potter Night” raised not only spirits, but also $14,000 for pediatric cancer research and patient care projects.

Among the guests at the premiere are the Contreras family — dad Mark, mom Dana, and sons Nicolas and Matthew (seated.)

Young cancer patients and their families from Rady Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, and Kaiser Hospital attended free-of-charge. Moviegoers were dressed to impress as their favorite magical characters; the costume contest boasted a Kindle for the first place winner.

The event was held in honor of Sean Lewis Robins, the foundation’s inspiration, who worked at UltraStar Del Mar Highlands before becoming too sick to continue working. The Seany Foundation is proud to create innovative, fun ways to raise funds for childhood cancer research and to provide respite to kids in treatment.

Proceeds from ticket sales benefit current Seany projects at Rady Children’s Hospital and UCSD Moores Cancer Center.  This event precedes the next Seany Movie Night in July 2011. Learn more at theseanyfoundation.org
