A La Jollan who wears more hats than most, Esther Viti, is going to get another feather in her cap Tuesday when she receives a proclamation from District 1 Councilwoman Sherri Lightner proclaiming Dec. 7 as Esther Viti Day.

The meeting is at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers in the City Administration Building, 12th floor, 202 “C” Street in downtown San Diego.

Lightner is also going to present a certificate to Viti at the La Jolla Town Council meeting at 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 9 at La Jolla Rec. Center.

Viti is a high-profile community activist involved in a number of La Jolla committees, the most notable being the Town Council’s Parks & Beaches and Streetscape and Beautification committees. For many years, Viti has been in charge of establishing and maintaining memorial benches throughout La Jolla Village.
She also spearheads monthly community cleanups in La Jolla sponsored by the Nell Carpenter Beautification/Streetscape Committee of La Jolla Town Council held the second Saturday of each month at rotating spots around town.

Her next cleanup will be from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 11 on Girard Avenue from Silverado Street to Pearl St. The sign-up table for the event will be behind Union Bank on Silverado.

Gloves, pickers, trash bags and other tools necessary to sweep the sidewalks and gutters and pick up trash and other litter will be provided. Snacks, refreshments and lunch will be available for volunteers.

For information call Viti at (619) 742-1373 or e-mail beautljviti@aol.com.

If you haven’t been there, you absolutely must go. Highlights are the recreations of Route 66 and C […]
