Xcite Steps to showcase work by teens with cognitive disabilities at gallery in Solana Beach
Xcite Steps will hold its first art gallery opening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at RE Gallery, 348 S Cedros Ave # H, in Solana Beach.
Xcite Steps is a local organization that supports, enriches and empowers the lives of people who experience cognitive disabilities. Part of the program features a specialized Art Club that meets once a week and serves as a creative outlet for teens and young adults of this population to get together and meet similar people.
Xcite Step mentors attend the club along with members at a 3:1 ratio and serve as their social coaches and friends. Art teacher Lester Corral said the group is ready to display the work from its eight-week session. XciteSteps will run its next eight- week art session in February.
