CIF roundup: Country Day moves on, LJHS fall short

The La Jolla Country Day football team took care of business Friday night at home during the first round of the CIF Division V playoffs.

The Torreys (8-3) topped Calipatria, 45-0. It was the second time this season Country Day beat Calipatria, the first time by a score of 28-14.

Up next for the Torreys is a quarterfinal showdown with Francis Parker, which won the  Division V title last season.

Against Calipatria, the Torreys were dominant on the ground, led by Sage Burmeister,  who ran for 204 yards and two TDs. Anthony Torres, Tyler Sheflo, Yossi Stein and Nick  Schlossberg also added touchdowns in the rout.

La Jolla High falls short in Division IV
The La Jolla High Vikings’ season came to an end Friday night in the first round of the  CIF Division IV playoffs as they fell to Brawley, 35-21. The Vikings finished the season with a 2-9 record.
