Ocean garden walk set for Sunday

On Sunday, the Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter will launch its new Lawn Patrol/Neighborhood Walk Program to help people identify what does and does not make an Ocean Friendly Garden.

Those interested in seeing a garden that Surfrider volunteers helped install should meet at 9:45 a.m. at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, 5627 La Jolla Blvd.) to sign in. The 90-minute, half-mile walk will start about 10 a.m. Walkers should be a slight elevation change, but not a steep course, and there will be many stops, according to a Surfrider press release.

The release describes the gardens as those designed to “apply CPR to revive our watersheds and oceans: Conservation, Permeability and Retention.”

If Surfrider officials spot a garden that fits their standards, they’ll leave a note telling them homeowners can get an OFG sign.

“Lawn Patrol should be a fun and interactive way to learn how to identify what makes a garden ocean friendly and then do it yourself, go to an OFG Class or hire someone to help you,” Rexi Dayes from SurfriderSD Ocean Friendly Gardens program said in the release. “The ocean is downhill from everywhere so we need to keep the water clean starting at home.”

RSVP is suggested but not required.  RSVP or get more information by e- mailing ofg@surfriderSD.org

Okay, I admit it. I am a huge fan of the Disney movies, TV shows, merchandise and theme parks. One of my favorite places to visit is Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park, next to Disneyland Park in Anaheim (I have a well-used Premium Annual Passport). If you haven’t been there, you absolutely must go. Highlights are the recreations of Route 66 and C […]
