Bronowski memorial planned for Nov. 1

La Jolla Playhouse will host a public memorial for Rita Bronowski, one of the Playhouse’s founding members, beloved trustee, donor, volunteer and lifelong theater enthusiast. who passed away on Sept. 2, 2010.

The event is set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Playhouse’s Mandell Weiss Forum (2910 La Jolla Village Drive), with a reception to follow. The memorial is open to the public. To RSVP, send an e-mail to:

A sculptor and theater practitioner in her hometown of London, Bronowski came to the U.S. in the early 1960s and put her passion to a purpose. She became an early supporter of the effort to establish a theater on the campus, and as a member of the search committee for its artistic director, helped to set the course of the re-born La Jolla Playhouse. She was a member of the Playhouse Board of Trustees, serving on a number of committees.
