Bishop’s School presents sixth annual Scripps Celebration

The sixth annual Ellen Browning Scripps Celebration was held Oct. 23 at The Bishop’s School. The gala included dinner and dancing, plus an awards presentation, emceed this year by Kamal Assaf, class of 1988.

At the event, the Alumni Achievement Award was presented to Christiane Covington, class of 1975 (awarded posthumously); The Michael W. Teitelman Leadership Award was given to teaching veteran Dr. Melinda Hennessey; and the Ellen Browning Scripps Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Melissa Winter, class of 1985. Winter is serving in the Obama Administration as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the First Lady Michelle Obama.

The gala was chaired by Laurel Hanson, class of 1987 and Irene Kuster McCann, class of 1988.The Bishop’s School was founded in 1909 by Ellen Browning Scripps, Joseph Horsfall Johnson and Eliza Virginia Scripps.
