School candidate forum set for Oct. 27 in La Jolla

The La Jolla Cluster Association will hold a candidate forum at 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 for all five candidates for school board at the final forum before the Nov. 2 election. The forum will be held in the auditorium at Torrey Pines Elementary School, 8350 Cliffridge Ave.

Emily Alpert, who covers education for voiceofsandiego.org which is co-hosting the event, from VOSD will be the moderator.

“We believe it is critically important that our community has another opportunity to hear directly from each of the candidates,” said John May, a LJCA parent representative and an organizer of the event. To submit questions to the moderators, visit www.lajollacluster.com.

Participating in the forum will be budget analyst Scott Barnett and incumbent John de Beck for the Area C seat, and math teacher Kevin Beiser, businessman Stephen Rosen and incumbent Katherine Nakamura for the Area B seat. Nakamura is a write-in candidate.

Area C includes La Jolla, Mission Bay, Point Loma and Kearny Mesa.

Area B includes City Heights, Scripps Ranch, Tierrasanta and the College Area.

La Jolla Cluster Association is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of schools in San Diego Unified School District. Its board includes parent and teacher representatives and the principals from La Jolla’s five public schools.
