The Neurosciences Institute will present a special event to support its scientific research, “Taste of Magic,” 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at 1640 John Jay Hopkins Drive, La Jolla.

The evening will begin with an outdoor appetizers and wine-tasting reception, which will include pourings from Artesa Winery, Falkner Winery, La Serenissima, and Women with Wine, among others.

At 8 p.m. guests will proceed to the auditorium for a performance from world-class magician Mark Mitton. Before the magic is underway, institute founder and Nobel laureate Dr. Gerald Edelman will share fascinating facts about the science behind illusion and the brain’s perception of magic, challenging guests to see if they can spot the magical deception.

Tickets are $50 at (858) 626-2053 or www.TasteofMagic.org.
