Adelaide’s Florists & Decorators is in full Halloween mode and is even discounting prices on all its scary holiday gift items from Oct. 7-31.

“We’re going to have 25 percent off of all our Halloween merchandise,” said owner Gina Phillips, noting Adelaide’s has an array of “fun things to put around the house” – everything from scary witches and skeletons to a spider floral arrangement that can reused as a votive cup. They can be purchased at the store or by fax or phone or on the store’s website at

Adelaide’s is a full-service, European-style floral boutique located in the heart of La Jolla Village.

“Come in and see the incredible giftware we do have,” said Phillips, adding that Halloween is increasingly becoming an adult holiday with people celebrating through home decoration, parties and costumes. “People really have fun dressing up their houses and it’s really becoming more sophisticated,” she said.

Phillips is the third-generation owner of the florist shop begun in 1936 by her grandmother, Adelaide Phillips, who started with an operating budget of $6 in 1936 in Encinitas. It was a single-person operation until her son, Harry Jr., eventually took over from her and became the sole owner in 1974.

Floral design is the company’s passion. and knowledgeable staff work directly with patrons to customize floral arrangements or help them pick out plants or gifts. One hundred percent satisfaction is guaranteed.

Adelaide’s also has a complete wedding and event department for special occasions.

Above all else, the cornerstone La Jolla business prides itself on its customer rapport.
“It’s all about customer service,” Phillips said. “Our customer service is bar none: We’re here for you.”

Shop hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The shop is closed Sundays. Holiday hours are extended. To assure on-time delivery, order at least one day prior to Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Administrative Professionals Week, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Adelaide’s has been voted Best Florist of La Jolla for the past eight years by La Jolla Light readers.
