Art exhibit will benefit hospital; fundraiser Tuesday

Works by renowned watercolorist/calligrapher Grace Phillips will begin a three-month exhibition, Oct. 5 through Jan. 4, at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Schaetzel Center, 9888 Genesee Ave. in La Jolla.

The former South African and current 20-year San Diego resident, is now stricken with Alzheimer’s. In her honor, a unique fundraiser to benefit the care of Alzheimer’s patients will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Schaetzel Center.

There is no entry fee to attend, but opportunities to bid on art and win prizes. The cocktail reception and silent auction will include a chance to win a round-trip ticket for two to South Africa from South African Airways, and a three-night weekend at the 5-star spectacular Etali Madikwe Safari Lodge, courtesy of Timeless Africa Safaris.

One-fourth of all proceeds will go to Scripps La Jolla’s patient care programs and Alzheimer’s care.

At the event, the artist’s daughter, Sue Phillips, a fragrance expert who developed TIFFANY perfume, will present a brief overview of the power of the olfactory senses.
