UCSD, Scripps Hospital set as drug drop-off locations in La Jolla
La Jolla residents can safely discard unused medicines Saturday at drop-off locations at Scripps Green Hospital and UCSD.
Sponsored by the regional Prescription Drug Task Force, the drop-off event includes 21 locations throughout the county and is part of the nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Local drop-off locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“All too often, drug abuse starts right in the family medicine cabinet, where painkillers can fall into the hands of curious teens,” said Pam Slater-Price, Chairwoman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.
Law enforcement officials will take possession of the turned-in drugs with no questions asked. People can remove labels from prescription bottles or simply turn in their contents.
“Non-discarded drugs endanger people and improperly-discarded drugs harm the environment, and in particular, the water table,” Slater-Price said. “That’s why I’m urging all county residents to purge unused medicines from their homes and bring them to a drop-off site.”
The UCSD drop-off point will be parking lot 705 at the corner of Genesee and Campus Point Drive.
