TSA reminds airline travelers to use the '3-1-1' rule

By City News Service

Travelers planning to fly out of San Diego International Airport over the Labor Day weekend should use the “3-1-1: rule to minimize delays at security checkpoints, the Transportation Security Administration urged Friday.

Containers of liquids, gels and aerosols carried through security checkpoints should be smaller than three ounces and enclosed in a one-quart, clear, plastic zip-lock bag. Passengers are limited to one baggie.

Passengers can also speed up the process by taking off their shoes before going through security.

Passengers should arrive at least two hours before departure on domestic flights and three hours for international flights, according to the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.

New body scanning machines were recently installed at security checkpoints that use so-called backscatter technology to generate a full-body image of passengers to screen for both metal and nonmetal objects, including explosives, without any physical contact.
