La Jolla gardener donates service to elementary school
The kindergarten playground at La Jolla Elementary School was looking a little neglected, so parent Julia Kaplan asked her gardener, Armando Castro, to help parents spruce it up a bit.
Castro, a father of four, brought his crew from Hanano Landscape Services, some plants and a truckload of compost over to the campus Sunday and spent the morning rejuvenating the space. And then he refused to take payment of any kind, saying he was happy to do it for the kids.
