Malicious mischief in La Jolla under investigation

A series of incidents involving malicious mischief and vandalism in the Candlelight Drive area of La Jolla near the border with Pacific Beach remain under investigation.

One incident was reported on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 1 a.m. on the 5600 block of Rutgers Road. The other two were both reported at 5 a.m. on the 5400 and 5500 blocks of Candlelight Drive.

“They pulled up some mailboxes and broke some car windows,” said Alan Alvarez with the San Diego Police Department’s Northern Division. “It seemed like it happened all at one time.
We don’t have any suspect leads to go on, don’t know if it was kids. But we are advising our units to be vigilant.”

Alvarez added no similar incidents have happened since.

“It looked like it was some sort of rampage that went on that night,” he said.
