Three San Diego bank robberies in one day apparently unrelated

By City News Service

Three apparently unrelated bank robberies played out in two San Diego neighborhoods over a 6 1/2-hour period Monday, authorities reported.

The first in the spate of heists occurred shortly after 9 a.m., when a man handed a demand note to a teller at a Chase Bank office in the 9900 block of Scripps Ranch Boulevard. He left the area on foot, heading southeast toward Pomerado Road, according to police.

Witnesses said the bandit was Asian or Hispanic and appeared to be in his 40s. He was about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a medium build and was wearing jeans, a gray or beige jacket and a dark-colored baseball cap.

About 45 minutes later, a thin, dark-haired man handed a written message demanding money to a cashier at a US Bank branch in the 6100 block of El Cajon Boulevard in Rolando, police said.

The thief, who fled in an unknown direction, was described as a roughly 5-foot-7-inch, deeply tanned white man in black pants, a black long-sleeved shirt, a green baseball cap and black shoes with a white design on them.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., a woman with a wrap of some sort around her head robbed a Bank of America office in the 6800 block of El Cajon Boulevard, about a mile northeast of the US Bank that had been robbed earlier in the day.

Witnesses said the bandit appeared to be in her 20s and was wearing black jeans, a black shirt and a striped jacket. Following the heist, she walked away to the west, according to police.
