Three children and one adult were injured when a drunk driver ran up onto the sidewalk and then crashed in to Cass Street Cafe on La Jolla Boulevard just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, a police spokesman said.

Information on the condition of the people hurt or whether any others were injured was not available by 8:45 p.m., but San Diego Fire & Rescue spokesman Maurice Luque said two children were taken to Rady Children’s Hospital and two other people to Scripps La Jolla.

The motorist was southbound on La Jolla Boulevard when he hit three children on the sidewalk before crashing into the restaurant, the police spokeman said. The man was in custody.

The crash was initially reported as a vehicle into the French Pastry Shop at 5417 La Jolla Blvd., but later reports showed it was actually at 5550 La Jolla Blvd..

A photographer on the scene said it appeared that a man came around the roundabout at Forward Street, between two trees and hit a power transformer before striking the victims.

At 8:30 p.m. the vehicle was still inside the restaurant and structural engineers were on the scene.

SDG&E spokeswoman April Sharp said crews were on scene working to restore power to about 90 customers. She estimated restoration could occur by midnight or sooner.

They really have a well-researched understanding of the issues and the politics and the challenges of the City’s pension liability, and as we approach the next […]

Jordan Rosenfeld, in his letter of May 9, said it’s time to stop the comparisons with Hitler and Nazi Germany, such as made by Jim Donovan (me) and Tom Pickwell in making their (separately submitted) cases against Big Brother in America and his ever bigger and bolder encroachments upon the liberty fought for by our inspired founders and guaranteed by the Con […]
