A possible arson fire spread through an unoccupied juice bar in La Jolla at Juice Kaboose at 7556 Fay Ave. early Monday, causing an estimated $150,000 in monetary losses.
“A call came in at 3:40 a.m. on the 300-square-foot coffee shop,” said Maurice Luque, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman. “It was declared under control 8 minutes after the first unit, Engine 13, arrived on the scene in 4 minutes and 7 seconds.”
Luque said two other fire units, Engine 9 and Engine 16, arrived on the scene shortly after at 43 seconds, and 2 minutes 57 seconds, respectively.
“There was smoke and fire showing when they (units) first got there,” said Luque.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Damage estimates were $150,000 total – $100,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents, said Luque.
The origin of the fire appeared suspicious, though the cause remained under investigation in the mid-afternoon.
The property damages were set at $100,000 to the structure and $50,000 to contents, Luque said.
