Pancake breakfast a sweet deal for community

“It was the most successful campaign breakfast we ever had,” said Brant Westfall, La Jolla Kiwanis president-elect about the service club’s 47th annual pancake breakfast held Saturday, July 31 from 7 to 11 a.m. at La Jolla Rec Center.

Westfall estimated attendance at between 1,400 and 1,500 for the annual family friendly event, which featured not only a community dining get-together but pony rides and children’s games as well as raffle prizes donated by local merchants.

Westfall singled out Dianne Brittingham, retiring executive director of La Jolla Rec Center and her staff for “helping us do these events for years and years.”

Kiwanis’ incoming president also cited the Sandbaggers band, noting “they got great feedback” from the crowd.

“A big and great thanks to all the people who attended and made this event possible and for supporting Kiwanis Club throughout the year,” added Westfall.
