Stage set for La Jolla SummerFest

La Jolla’s population gets a bump in August with the arrival of the La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest, which brings more than 70 world-class artists and ensembles to town.

As a special treat for the community, the event features a free opening week concert on Aug. 4 at Scripps Park, in advance of the concerts, open rehearsals, workshops and artist encounters that take place Aug. 6-27.

Your guide to SummerFest

Music society director Christopher Beach praises the contributions of Cho-Liang ‘Jimmy’ Lin, the renowned violinist who is marking his 10th year as SummerFest music director.

“Jimmy is a gentleman and a fine, world-class musician,” he said.
“Everyone who plays with him loves him and wants to play with him again.”

For his part, Lin says he is looking forward to seeing his off-season work take shape as the monthlong festival unfolds — and to playing his best when he takes the stage with his violin.
