Memorial for ‘Captain’ Mike Ambrose at Mission Bay Park

A public memorial service for longtime weatherman, Michael Ambrose, will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16.

10News invites the public to attend the event at Tecolote Shores North, Mission Bay Park (south of Hilton Hotel).

Ambrose passed away Aug. 29. He was 69-years-old. Ambrose was Channel 10′s primary weatherman from 1973 to his retirement in 2001.

He received his nickname “Captain Mike” when he came on the 10News set wearing the uniform of a World War I flying ace to promote a charity hot-air balloon ride. 10News partnered with the Salvation Army for the “Captain Mike Toy Drive” and collected thousands of toys for needy children in San Diego County.
