Country Day hosts ‘Big Apple’ gala

About 500 supporters of La Jolla Country Day School gathered in a tent on the school grounds for a gala they called “Big Blue Goes to the Big Apple.” The evening at the “Rainbow Room” began with a cocktail reception and a New York-style dinner created by Michael Malecot of The French Gourmet. The meal featured Bleeker Street filet mignon and New York cheesecake, of course. Guests were encouraged to dress for “cocktails in Manhattan.”

A performance by singer Elisa Eliot was part of the entertainment before guests took to the floor for some supper club-style dancing.

Among the large crowd on hand to enjoy a taste of the Big Apple were David and Maggie Bentley (co-chair of the auction), Jim and Teri Cardot, Mike and Sue Herman, Steven and Keitha Libman, Craig and Joyce Grosvenor, Howard and Judith Ziment, Bryan and Robin Webster, Steve and Lori Temko, Scott and Amy Levine and Ed and Rachel Scheibler.

Guests bid on all kinds of auction items – ranging from make-overs and dinners to designer bags and paid tuition for the 2008 and 2009 school year.
